Everyone at Wiggins Memorial Library is inviting everyone counted amongst Campbell University’s staff, faculty, and student body to celebrate 2014 National Library Week April 7-11, 2014 at the Library. This year, the annual event includes some fun-filled change-ups – such as Crafts with Books and Trivia Night – alongside perennial favorites such as the kickoff Edible Book Festival and a fine-forgiveness book drive.
The week begins on Monday the 7th with the Edible Book Festival from 2 p.m. – 4 p.m. in the Library’s 24-Hour Study Area. With or without an entry, everyone is welcome to come admire the creative entries, vote, and eat cake. Check out http://guides.lib.campbell.edu/edible for complete info, registration information, and photos of past years’ entries and prize winners.
New this year is a Tuesday lunchtime Crafts with Books session (free lunch included). Guests will be surprised, and delighted, to see what they can make with old books, including “secret” spaces in hollowed-out books, flower arrangements, and jewelry with word themes culled from loose book pages. Also new is Trivia Night (free pizza and a chance to beat Wiggins’ house team), a Game Day in CMMC rather than Game Night, and a display of published books by faculty authors.
Mid-afternoon Wednesday, Wiggins offers “spiritual refreshment” at its second annual Poetry Jam, along with edible refreshments and door prizes throughout the two-hour, open-mic format event on the Library lawn.
On the practical side of National Library Week is a new “So You Want to Be a Librarian” panel discussion that explores the technology- and information-driven world of 21st Century librarianship, and a repeat session highlighting library resources for graduating seniors. For 2014 Wiggins also continues its tradition of a weeklong National Library Week scavenger hunt as well as fine forgiveness for generous patrons who donate new or gently used books, DVDs, or CDs. These will be donated to Christian Library International in exchange for $5.00 in fine forgiveness for each item.
