K-12 Pharmacy Forum - Addiction: What it Does to Your Brain
Campbell University College of Pharmacy & Health Sciences
Free workshop for high school teachers
1 CEU will be provided
The workshop will present teachers with information needed to understand what actually happens inside your brain when you take drugs. We will start with how drugs produce effects on cells, and the basic idea of how your brain works. That will lead to examples of how these cell effects can cause problems with the way the brain works. For example, when some uses marijuana, the active substance slows neuron activity in areas of the brain associated with memory and perception. The workshop will also include information from clinicians about long-term problems associated with the use of common drugs of abuse, and what kind of warning signs teachers can look for that might indicate a student is using drugs.
