Adam Smith is known as the father of modern economics. His classic treatise, The Wealth of Nations, was written in 1776 and was the first comprehensive defense of individual liberty and a free market economy ever written. In 1751, Smith was appointed Professor of Logic at Glasgow and then to the Chair of Moral Philosophy in 1752.
The purpose of the Campbell University Adam Smith Club (ASC) is to promote the principles of individual liberty and responsibility, a free market economy, and limited government. The Club was founded in 1977 and is now one of the most active student groups on campus. In 1999,  the Adam Smith Club was selected by the Campbell University Interorganizational Council as "Club of the Year," an honor it has received a total of six times.
The club sponsors the FREE Forum Lecture Series which features talks by well-known journalists, scholars, and political figures from around the country.

The ASC also publishes The Campbell Entrepreneur, a nationally distributed newsletter of fact and opinion.

The ASC also hosts their Roundtable Discussion Series which allows students to engage each other, faculty, and the public on policy issues.
