Scholarly Activities

Dr. Donna Woolard is pursuing new scholarship interests. After years of sharing her expertise in the professional preparation of physical education teachers and serving as a consultant to the Educational Testing Service in its development of the Praxis II Physical Education Exams, she has teamed up with the department’s former chair, Dr. William Freeman. Together they have collaborated on research into the nation's nomenclature of departments and programs in physical education, exercise science, and kinesiology, presenting their findings at the Association for Kinesiology in Higher Education's annual conferences. Their latest work focuses on the preparation of college-level teachers.

Ms. Catherine Simonson is active in the National Athletic Trainers' Association (NATA) and the North Carolina Athletic Trainers' Association (NCATA) and serves as a peer reviewer for the NATA Educational Council. Her areas of interest include evidence-based practice, injury prevention, performance enhancement, and community health education.

Dr. Jennifer Bunn is a successful researcher and author with articles published in respected journals such as Respiratory Care and Nutrition Journal. As an active member of the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM), she presents research at both the Southeast Regional and national ACSM conferences. As an advocate for student research Dr. Bunn proudly serves on the editorial board of the International Journal of Exercise Science, which publishes only research that includes undergraduate or graduate student authors.

Dr. Elizabeth Lange is an expert in team development, having consulted with many sport teams and corporate groups.  Her research areas include cultural competence, intercultural communication, facilitation of experiential education, team cohesion and group dynamics, leadership, social justice in the outdoors, and performance enhancement. Dr. Lange is a regular presenter at national conferences focusing on sport psychology and sport management.

Dr. Kymm Ballard is the Partnership Development Specialist for SPARK, a research-based, public health organization dedicated to creating, implementing, and evaluating programs that promote lifelong wellness. Her role with SPARK is to seek and maintain partners and funding for SPARK in effort to provide quality research based physical education/activity to schools and organizations around the country and world.
