History and Accreditation

The Athletic Training Program began in 1992 when Mr. Scott Hill was hired as the first full-time athletic trainer. Together, Mr. Hill and Dr. William Freeman, Chair of the Department of Exercise Science, created the athletic training major. In 2000, under the direction of Mr. Paul Plummer, the Athletic Training Program received its initial accreditation from the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP).  In August of 2012, Campbell University’s Athletic Training Program, was awarded reaccreditation by the Commission on Accreditation of Athletic Training Education (CAATE).  The program’s next comprehensive review is scheduled for the 2021-2022 academic year.
