Internships

Students may obtain academic credit for participating in a practical learning experience outside Campbell University but often simply choose to gain work experience to strengthen their resumes for post-graduate studies and full-time employment. If the internship is for academic credit, the experience must address a biology-related problem, involve college-level work, and have a component of active, hands-on activity. Up to six (6) upper-level academic credits may be earned in this way.

Recent examples of the varied experiences gained by students in the Department of Biological Sciences include internships at the NC Aquarium at Pine Knoll Shores, SeaWorld, Walt Disney World’s Animal Kingdom, Student Conservation Service & US National Park Service, Northwest Georgia Science Museum, Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) and paramedics training/experience, “Summer Program for Future Doctors” (SPFD) @ East Carolina University Brodie School of Medicine, and GlaxoSmithKline (GSK) Women in Science program, to name but a few.

Resources for Students

The members of the faculty of the Department of Biology strive to be one cohesive group of excellent teachers and scientists. Our love of teaching, our genuine concern for our students, and our ongoing commitment for the betterment of our students is foremost in all our efforts to ensure student success. We fully support the mission statement of Campbell University to graduate students with exemplary academic and professional skills who are prepared for purposeful lives and meaningful service. Each member of the Biology department team strives to be the best teacher they can be for the sake of the student, for Campbell University, and for our Lord Jesus Christ.

A large portion of the success of our program and the successes demonstrated by our students and alumni relate directly to mentoring opportunities between faculty and students, excellent facilities and equipment, departmental espirit-de-corps, and positive synergy and collaboration with our colleagues in other departments and disciplines, especially in the Department of Chemistry and Physics.
