Physician Assistant Program

On October 17, 2008, Campbell University’s Board of Trustees approved the addition of a master’s program in Physician Assistant Studies (MPAS) to the University’s curricular offerings. The two-year program will complement the University's other health sciences undergraduate, graduate and professional degree programs under the School of Pharmacy – the Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD), the Master of Clinical Research (MSCR) and Master of Pharmaceutical Sciences (MSPS).

Campbell University will be the sixth school in North Carolina to offer the Physician Assistant program, joining five existing programs in North Carolina located at Duke University, Wake Forest University, East Carolina University, Methodist University, and Wingate University. There are 141 other PA programs in the United States. There are currently approximately 75,000 PAs practicing in the United States, and 3,000 PAs practicing in North Carolina.

Current plans for the program include the renovation of the interior of the Carrie Rich Building, which currently houses the undergraduate library. The library will be moved to Wiggins Hall when the Norman Adrian Wiggins School of Law relocates to downtown Raleigh this fall. The University anticipates the enrollment of the first class of students in the PA program during the summer of 2011.
