North/South Tournament

The opening ceremonies for the annual North/South Tournament

In the history of the United States, there have been two big battles between the South and the North that I can recall: the Civil War and The Professional Golf Management Program’s North/South week at Campbell University.

This Monday marked the beginning of North/South week, which has held a lot of rival chants, color sporting, and mini games to represent each side’s pride. The golfing part of this epic week starts tomorrow Thursday, March 20 at Keith Hills Country Club, which is across the highway from Campbell’s campus. Although we are all members of the same program, there is just one thing separating us, and that, my friends, is the Mason-Dixon line.

Not only is North/South week a great time for Professional Golf Management at Campbell, but the whole campus can get involved. There are multiple events to support and represent your side of the Mason-Dixon line. There is a dodgeball game tonight in Carter Gym from 6-8 p.m. The South will wear red and the North will wear blue. Come out and support your side!

The President of PGM, Sebastian Hutman, would like to encourage all of the student body to participate in this week of pride, mini games and full out support for the guys playing in the most anticipated golf tournament on campus. "The North/South is the most unique and heated rivalry of any school in the nation with a Professional Golf Management Program,” said Hutman. “This is the one week a year that turns best friends into the fiercest of competitors. Go North!”

This is truly going to be an exciting week for everyone involved, including two of our golf instructors- Mr. Ryan Dailey and Mr. Ken Jones- who are playing in the tournament. Follow the North/South Twitter feed and like Campbell University PGA Golf Management’s fan page on Facebook to stay in the loop for this exciting week. Let the games begin! Go South!

My Story

At Campbell, I have found friends that were going through the same homesickness I was, and we worked together to fight it. Essentially, I found my second family and that's why I love it here. It's home away from home.

As a freshman, what I liked most about my first semester was learning about myself. College is a whole new experience, and it was essential that I found out the “dos” and “don’t’s” to create a positive learning experience for myself.  During my second semester, I am most looking forward to learning. I have never felt so positive about an academic year as I do right now in the current semester.

My advice for incoming freshmen: Take your time. Think about your choices and make many visits, sometimes more than one to the same school. I visited Campbell seven to eight times before I made the decisions, and I most definitely do not regret it! If you are looking for a great education, while making great memories, with even greater people, then Campbell is for you.
