The scholarship was established through a bequest from the Estate of John Gordon Cashwell.  This scholarship is awarded to a student(s) half of whom are majoring in, or have declared an intention to major in one or more of the undergraduate majors or graduate courses of study offered by the Campbell University School of Education and half of whom are majoring in, or have declared an intention to major in, one or more of the undergraduate majors or graduate courses of study offered by the Department of Music of the College of Arts and Sciences.  Preference shall be given to residents of Sampson County, North Carolina; residents of the State of North Carolina; then, all other students.*

A person of integrity, high moral character, in need of financial assistance and capable of satisfactory academic achievement at the college level. Recipient must refrain from using intoxicating beverages, drugs, and tobacco in their various forms. Recipient cannot be a member of a social fraternity or sorority.
